Has Richt already given his notice?

Post by Mike
Has Coach Richt already given McGarity his notice? That is one rumor making the rounds. As errant as most rumors are, this one makes some sense to me.

The gist is that CMR told McGarity before the season opened that this would be his last year at UGA, and a committee has been formed to evaluate possible replacements and make a succession plan.

There are a few holes in the theory. 1 - There is no way this could be kept quiet. 2 - There is really no need for succession planing. That is something you do when you like the direction of a program, not when the entire thing needs a redo.

Still, I find this speculation interesting because it would at least explain the cavalier attitude resonating from the top of the Dawg program.

Hopefully Chip Towers will ask about this speculation.

  1. Kirby Smart is not the answer!! He will not be able to turn to Saban and ask "what do I do here coach?"

  2. We don't need another unproven assistant like CMR. Please go buy BSU's Chris Petersen or Miss St. Dan Mullen

  3. Jack Del Rio is done in Jacksonville and he would do well in Athens.

  4. I would love to see Chris Peterson in Athens!...What a motivated winner!

  5. Enough with the Peterson talk. His scientology beliefs will not fly in the south with recruits (families) and alumni base.

  6. How about George O'Leary

  7. You can forget about George O'Leary... One of the reasons Central Florida did so well against UGA last year is because O'Leary despises Georgia and got his players pumped up for the game. He still has strong connections to Tech, and many Tech football fans revere him to this day. It had been a lifelong dream of his to coach at ND, and if it hasn't been for that, he'd likely still be on the sidelines at Grant Field today. He understood the importance of Tech's traditions and was probably the best fit as the Yellow Jackets coach out of all the coaches we've had over the past 30 years.

The best fit for UGA would be someone like Jim Tressel. He reminds me a lot of Vince Dooley.

  8. John Gruden should be our first, second and third choice. His wife graduated from Tennessee and he was a Grad. Asst. on the football team. He would be a great recruiter, motivator and bring instant noteriety to our program. An assistant coach is NOT what we need. No time for experiments.

  9. Jim Tressel is like a guy with a neck tattoo...UNHIREABLE.

  10. Little Kirby Smart is not calling the shots at Alabama. UGA does not need little Kirby!

  11. If Alabama can take Saban (indirectly) from LSU, then UGA should consider offering Steve Spurrier . . . pay him the money . . . he is a proven winner as a college coach. Love him or hate him . . . the man can coach college football. Big question marks: his age, but more than that, his willingness to leave South Carolina for Georgia (a school he has no love for).

    1. If I ever see Spurrier on the UGA sideline I will mail my diploma back.
